Good Bye San Fransisco

As with all our previous trips taken with Ter and NCARB, the accommodations were beautiful! We stayed at the Argonaut. This hotel is in a 100+ yr old building that used to be a cannery. Just inside the front doors is the National Maritime Museum and just outside the front doors is Fisherman's Wharf and the ocean.
The National Maritime Museum had the top portion of an actual light house on display. We learned all about the early lighthouse keepers and their families. It appears life was not very easy for someone in this profession.

We said our farewells then headed back home.

I must digress again and give the finale of the van saga.

So, we still have a renal car we picked up in Barstow, Calif. and our van is now in a shop in St. George getting ripped apart. The anticipated date of completion is Friday. The current day is Monday. We can return the rental in St. George at the cost of $350 or return it to Barstow for a mere $150 and 10 hours round trip. This is not including the cost of $169 for the first five days we took the car to San Fransisco. (We opted to drive the car back to Barstow.)

The van ended up costing $1000 instead of $3000, and since we had a warranty, we were only out $129. But the insurance people were unwilling to work with us on the rest of the costs even though we'd just saved them $2000. (Moving the van from a Ford dealer in Barstow, who wanted to put in a totally new transmission, to a transmission shop in St. George who would just rip it apart and find out what was wrong and fix that particular item is what saved the warranty people.) They paid a meager $50 towards the towing which actually cost $314 and $175 towards the $350 car rental.

Can someone please remind me why I bought a warranty in the first place!

So a trip that was supposed to cost absolutely nothing because NCARB picked up our gas, food and hotel, ended up costing $618. Gee whiz, I could have had a new sofa!

Looks like a fun trip--albeit without the van incident. I've been to a couple of those places. San Fran has some cool things there.
